Are there any samples of firearms built ahead of 1905 which have the “WP” within the receiver and barrel in addition to the “Oval P” around the barrel? In that case, This could signify a mail buy barrel being set up via the Winchester repair service shop.

Ned Schwing stated in his reference guide over the Product 1890 & 1906 that Winchester commenced evidence marking them in 1908… I have no idea if that is definitely correct, but will believe that it's. The “WP” proof mark was utilized following the barrel and receiver were being mated, assembled and concluded. This is highly obvious to the firearms produced in the late teenagers by means of early 30s once the blue flaked (popped) off once the evidence was struck within the receiver body.
